Crochet Pillow Cover Quandry

In reference to yesterday's post, I'd still like to crochet a cover for this pillow, but obviously the color would peek through just a bit from most any stitch I might use.

I was going to cover the pillow first with a solid cotton fabric and then make the crochet cover, but I just now had another idea. Would it be better to crochet the pillow cover and then line the cover itself?

I've never made a purse or anything that needed a lining, so I'm at a loss here. I suppose I could just crochet the two sides, attach fabric to the back of each, and then stitch together to complete the pillow cover.

Sound feasible?

  1. I think that sounds totally feasible. But I think it would work either way. The stitches I was telling you about yesterday have a lot of spacing in them and I thought it would be really pretty to see a solid color peeking through the spaces. Now that I think about it, i bet it would look better if you lined the cover itself.

  2. I've never made a pillow cover, so I can't give expert advice. Seems to me that sewing the cover for the pillow would be easier and with a contrasting color, it would look very nice. I've tried hand-stitching a fabric lining to the inside of a crocheted purse, and I wasn't really happy with the results. But, I'm not really a seamstress, so you might have better luck. Be sure to show us your result! :)

  3. The yarn you chose looks like it will match your bed coverings very nicely. I think the slip cover over the pillow would be easier. It's not going to show anyway so just make a quick solid-colored pillow cover for your pillow. Then cover it with your pretty crocheted cover. It well look beautiful.

  4. I think it would look just fine to make a fabric cover for the pillow and then place the crocheted one on. My 2 cents worth anyway 8>)
