Ok, back to crochet.
I bought new bedding for my bed when I moved into this house in March and wanted to make a throw to put on the end of the bed, or maybe on a chair. I started working on one pattern and although I loved the stitch, I didn't think it 'fit' the style, so started another and was going strong for a while.
Life got in the way (see above) and I haven't worked on it lately, but really wanted to add something to my bed to break up the color some. I remembered I had a pillow that I wanted to re-cover, so thought maybe I could crochet a cover for it with the yarn I was going to use for the throw.
I found the pillow at the thrift shop for $1 or $1.50 and it's in perfect shape, but of course the design doesn't work for anything. I was thinking of covering it with a solid cotton fabric first (I'm sure I've got an old pillowcase or something that would work), and then crochet the 'pretty' cover to go over that.
Whatdya think?
I haven't decided on what crochet stitch to use yet, but this is the yarn I plan on using.
It's cool and rainy today, so I thought it would be a perfect time to pick up this crochet project and make something happen. With so much other junk happening in my life, I thought a small crochet project that wouldn't take long to finish might be just the thing I need.

I love the color! I think it would work great! If you get Crochet magazine there is a couple of new stitches in it called Windmill and Bunny Ears I think and they are both gorgeous stitch patterns. Check them out.

ReplyDeleteDo you think you can just do it from written directions? If so I will write it down for you cuz it isn't a pattern just a stitch so it won't violate any cr laws or anything.
ReplyDeleteI've been making personalized pillow covers using the tunisian (or afghan) stitch and then cross-stitching a pattern/name on it. The color of the pillow hardly peeks through at all and the personalization draws one's eye to that instead of any "peeking."
ReplyDeleteIf you would like to try a pillow cover that will kind of hold the crochet in place, try plain color flannel pilow slips. If the slip is longer than your pillow, fold it back into itself like an envelope and tuck the opening end into the closed end of your crochet cover. Does that make sense? Sometimes I know what to do, but not how to word it. Plus flannel holds the softer sheet scents really well from the dryer.
