Finished Fall Afghan

I posted a week or so ago when I started this large granny square from yarn in my stash and wasn't sure what I wanted to do with it.

I finished it off at 40" and it seems a good size for a lapghan, so I think I'll add it to my stack of stuff to donate to the VA hospital.

I'll be starting a volunteer position at the VA soon and will probably be at Hopewell House, the ward for the older gentlemen that don't really need to be hospitalized, but aren't well enough to live on their own and have no family nearby. I'm sure one of them would enjoy it as we head into the cooler months.

I'm excited to get going out there so I can bring the afghans and lapghans/wheelchair-ghans that I've already completed, and find out what else they'd like.  I'll probably bring a project with me to work on while I visit, and eventually want to see that each veteran on the ward has an afghan for their bed.

  1. It's beautiful. What a wonderful thing your are embarking on. When my Mom was alive I would visit her almost everyday in the nursing home and I would notice a lot of elderly alone and it was sad. I'd make sure to say hello or have a few words or just acknowledge them. They will appreciate you.

  4. You're so creative with your left over yarns. I really like that. You're so generous with your time to help veterans who have no family near.

  5. The lapghan is beautiful and I know will be so welcomed. My dad was in a VA hosptial till he passed and one morning I came in and the most beautiful blanket was on him. Your work will certainly make a difference. I think I need to do something like this, thank you for your post.
