If you crochet, what type of hook do you prefer? Even if you’re clueless with a hook in hand, you’ve probably watched Mom, Grandma or Aunt Clara practicing their craft, probably with a steel hook. For years the steel hook was most popular, but there are several other options to choose from today.
While I’ve used metal hooks in the past, I haven’t in quite some time and will only pick up one as a last resort. I’ve outlined advantages and disadvantages to using crochet hooks made of various materials in this article. I hope you find it useful.

There are types? teehee--guess that should give you an idea of my crochet skill... I am gla there are people who do it though--I love the nifty things you can make!
ReplyDeleteCan't say I have a favorite. But that would be odd if I did, wouldn't it?
ReplyDeleteI used to love to crochet (and knit). My arthritis limits that now, especially after long days of typing at the computer.
ReplyDeletePopping in by way of the A-Z Challenge. I’m blogging at:

I love all types of crochet hooks. The really large ones can make even the toughest yarn feel soft. And I use the smaller hooks for more intricately detailed pieces. I'll probably have some time to crochet when April is over ;)

I'm still with the metal hooks (they are the cheapest), but when I am in a store, I am so tempted to try those wooden ones, but I think, "no, I'll stick with what I have and use that money to buy thread." One day, maybe.........

In my 30+ years of crocheting, I've always used a metal hook. I did try plastic but didn't like the "feel". I actually just bought a bamboo hook over the weekend but have not used it yet. I would love to try the Brittany birch!
ReplyDeleteOf COURSE C is for CROCHET. ;-)

I use metal all the time. I'm not familiar with the bamboo. I should try one. I don't like the plastic at all though.
ReplyDeleteI just use the aluminum and am happy with that although I'd like to try bamboo at some point. I've tried plastic and didn't like it at all.
ReplyDeleteI like the Susan Bates hooks best. But for my larger hooks, I go acrylic. =)
