Knit Dishcloth Debut

I mentioned last week that I was on a dishcloth kick, and also that I had decided to pick up a pair of knitting needles to see what sort of mess I could create with them. I found some awesome knitted dishcloth patterns where you make a sort of recessed or relief picture based on the placement of knit and purl stitches and oh my, I think I'm hooked.

I started off with the basic knit dishcloth like the one that everyone's granny always did, the simple diagonal, that I did in a light blue color that will match my kitchen (not that I really care about such things, but I digress). I've got some from that pattern that I was given as a gift probably 8-9 years ago and they're still going strong.

First attempt at a knit dishcloth

Since this is a quick and easy pattern with virtually no counting, I am definitely going to be whipping them out to add to my crochet dishcloths in my Etsy shop.

I spotted this cute little snowbaby pattern and decided he would be my first attempt at a knit pattern that looks like a picture.  He's not quite finished yet, but here's where he is so far.

First attempt at a 'picture' - a snowbaby!

I think the little snowman would show up better with a darker colored yarn, and I think I need to go down one needle size to give him more definition, but for my first try, I think I did ok.  I'm excited to try more, and might even see if I can figure out how to make my own designs.

The very first washcloths I made were knitted...that was many years ago. I do have to say I liked the look of them a lot better than my crocheted ones....but man, I really do not like to knit.
Yours look great, especially the yellow since it's my favorite color. :)
