More Dishcloths Means More Cotton Yarn

I'm still messing around with knit dishcloth patterns and haven't found 'the one' yet that I really like.  There are scads of free patterns out there, but many of them specifically say that they are for your own use and you can't sell what you make from the pattern.  Since I make dishcloths to sell on Etsy, it's hard to weed out those I can use and which patterns I can't.

I started this pattern perhaps a dozen times because I kept dropping stitches.  If I have a crochet hook handy I can pick them back up, but it always happened when I couldn't reach a hook, so I'd end up ripping out and starting again.  And again.  And ..

I finally finished it, but not without error.  Every other row is a straight knit row and somewhere I lost track of which row I was on when I ripped some out and picked up the stitches again, so there is a boo-boo.  Not real noticeable and certainly good enough for my own kitchen, so I let it go and finished it up.  I wanted to try this one out to see if I liked the hole-y-ness of it when used anyway.

Here's the same hole-y knit cloth with another simple knit pattern I tried in blue variegated.

I wanted to use up some of my stash of cotton yarn (wasn't that why I started this whole project again?), but saw some new colors out at WalMart and I couldn't help myself.  This cone of variegated greens, natural and teal jumped into my cart and begged to be taken off that overcrowded shelf.

I started first with a basic knit cloth but didn't like how the colors turned out, and was getting tired and aggravated anyway, so reverted to my standard crochet dishcloth pattern that I'm comfortable with.  I had this cloth completed in no time and have already started another in natural so I can get a set finished and listed on Etsy.  I can't believe how much longer it takes to knit than it does to crochet, and wondering again why I decided to pick up knitting needles.

I got one set of the standard granny cloths knitted in purples and sages listed the other day and they sold the same day, so I was pleased with that.  I've really got to get on the ball and get more things finished and listed;  I think I only have two sets of dishcloths up now.

Enough writing ... back to knit and crochet!

To play along on Work-in-Progress Wednesday, make your blog post for Wednesday be about something you're working on - some type of craft, renovation project, landscaping, even that novel you're writing. You can play along even if it’s not Wednesday; I leave each WIP up until the following week. Copy the code below Rosie's picture and paste it into your blog post so that others can follow too, and see the rest of the projects that are posted here.

Make sure to click 'You are next' below to add your link here so my readers can follow it to your blog post.

Note ** Several of you are signing up at the bottom but you’re not putting the WIP Wednesday link on your own blog. If you don’t, your readers won’t be led back here to see what others are doing and what WIP Wednesday is all about. It’s not hard, just copy the code beneath the photo above and paste it into your blog post. If you’re having trouble, please let me know and I’ll try to walk you through it.

  1. I love crocheting dishcloths. I don't do anything special - just a simple sc. I don't see how anyone uses anything else.

I just saw that you live in Chillicothe. I live in Hillsboro. Small world.

  2. THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU! I particularly like the Marine camouflage one. I'll have to make some of those for my son. I prefer crocheting to knitting too. I have difficulty purling anyway for some reason. You can see results so much faster with crocheting.

  3. I'm finishing up my last one for gifts. I guess it gets sticky using free patterns online with the intention of selling the finished project.
I love your crochet pattern for the washcloths, but I would want to make it to sell them....but you already do, so I would never do that, regardless of whether you put in the note about it not being allowed.
    All of yours looks great.
I use the simple pattern that was on the back of some of the cotton yarn I've bought....and that is the ones I sell too.

  4. These look great!! I love crocheting dishcloths too, and could stand to make some new ones myself. However, I don't think that's going to happen till at least sometime in January! I don't make them for gifts because my own family really doesn't appreciate them. So their loss, right?!.. I did however, after a VERY busy day, do some crocheting last night, while the tree was lit, and I watched some t.v.; and it was a wonderfully peaceful night! I enjoyed every minute of it!... Hope you're having a great day, and that you're enjoying this holiday season!! ((hugs)) ~tina
